Day 3

Opening Prayer from Psalm 119:27-28

Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders.  My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.

Song:  Wonderful, Merciful Savior

written by Dawn Rodgers and Eric Wyse

Wonderful, merciful Savior
Precious Redeemer and Friend
Who would have thought that a Lamb
Could rescue the souls of men
Oh you rescue the souls of men

Counselor, Comforter, Keeper
Spirit we long to embrace
You offer hope when our hearts have
Hopelessly lost the way
Oh, we hopelessly lost the way

You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for

Almighty, infinite Father
Faithfully loving Your own
Here in our weakness You find us
Falling before Your throne

Oh, we're falling before your throne.

Psalm 1 (NIV)

1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.

4 Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff
    that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Interact with the LORD and His Word:

Help me, dear Father, not to follow in the ways of the sinners that are all around me.  Place in me a hunger for you and your Word.  Thank you for the gift of your Son, who loves me and gave himself for me, that I might be able to enter boldly before your throne.  Make me, by your Holy Spirit working in me, like a tree growing beside the waters.  Watch over me today and bless me as I seek after you.  Amen.

Main Bible Text:  1 Timothy

(Read slowly from your own copy of the Word, intent not on how much you read but on hearing what the LORD wants to say to you through His Word.  If you find that your mind is wandering, just reread the same section again and again until your mind is truly contemplating the truth of God's Word.  When the LORD opens your eyes to some truth, write it down--perhaps even on a notecard that you can meditate on throughout the day.  If you don't understand some part of the passage, ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding.  BibleGateway is also a great resource.  Look under "STUDY THIS" and then "COMMENTARIES.")

Concluding Prayer time

Spend time in prayer.

  • Confess sin & if none comes to mind ask the LORD to call to mind any sin that you need to deal with.

  • Thanksgiving:  Thank the LORD for His blessings in your life, for His Word & His salvation.

  • Petition:  Recognize who He is and His power to handle the things that concern you today.  Then tell the LORD what is on your heart.  If you're troubled about something, tell Him and then ask for His help.  Pray for the needs that you're aware of, whatever they might be.

  • Conclude with a recognition that your desire is for His will to be done in all of your requests--"In Jesus' name.  Amen.
