Energy Medicine—Questioning the Narrative Through a Biblical Lens

Energy. They say it's in us and all around us. Energy medicine teaches that illness occurs when the flow of energy is blocked. Practices like muscle testing, homeopathy, acupuncture, NAET, Emotion/Body Code, Splankna, and so many others claim to diagnose and treat illness. Has your journey led you to energy medicine? Lots of people claim it really works. I too once experienced its impact, both the good and the terrible. I have since communicated with hundreds who report similar experiences.

Proponents say things like the body “knows” we only have to ask it or quantum mechanics or frequencies somehow explain it. But what if there's more to it? A spiritual power that should not be messed with…a spiritual power that God is allowing Satan to wield in the last days to reveal the hearts of people.

Think of energy medicine like this.

Suppose you're standing outside a house one night and all of the blinds are closed. Suddenly you see a light turn on in a room, but later it turns off and another turns on. You have clear evidence that something is going on in the house, but you have no idea of the motive governing why the lights are changing, or who is turning them on and off.

Imagine that the human body is like the house and evidence for energy medicine is like the lights turning on and off. You know there is real power, but that does not mean the intelligence behind the power is good. There could be a serial killer in the house. Isn't it time you question the narrative? In this post I wish to offer a biblical perspective of energy medicine.

Energy is spiritual power

We may say things like, “I have no energy today,” and intend to refer only to the degree of zest for life and work that we possess at the time. This modern, colloquial use of the word predisposes people to believe energy medicine is acceptable and harmless. Additionally, knowing the physics use of the word energy confirms the reasonableness of concluding it’s all perfectly scientific. However, it is anything but that!

As should always be the Christian’s go to in matters requiring discernment, let’s consider how the Bible speaks about energy.

Predating the physics adoption of the word energy, is the original Greek root enérgeia, which was used by the writers of the New Testament. No true English equivalent exists. As a result, Bible translators often use the word work in place of energy because that comes closer to accurately conveying the Greek meaning. The noun form of enérgeia occurs eight times in the NT – and, except for one time, it always refers to God's energy. It means, power in action, divine energy, working, action, productive work.  It typically refers to God's energy which takes the believer from point to point in His plan (accomplishing His progressive work).

The verb form of the same word, energeó, is used 21 times and means to be at work, to do again.

Biblical writers ALWAYS used the word energy to refer to spiritual power—good or bad working in us. It is supernatural power to accomplish work in or through humans.

Neither form of energy is used biblically to refer to human power. Think on that truth for a minute…according to God energy is always spiritual power. Period.

See for yourself from a few of the passages where it is used. (The underlined word is enérgeia or energeó.)

  • God works in us to will and to do for his good pleasure. Philippians 2:13

  • What is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places. Ephesians 1:19-20

  • Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God's grace, which was given me by the working of his power. Ephesians 3:7

  • Ephesians 4:16 speaks of God’s energy showing itself in empowering each individual in the body of Christ to do His work through the church.

  • For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me. Colossians 1:29

  • Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. Colossians 2:12

Satan’s energy in the last days

Biblically speaking, energy is spiritual power; period, and that power energizes a human to effective work for God. One passage, however, speaks both of God’s work (energy) AND Satan’s work (energy). It is scary and yet very enlightening. The passage is 2 Thessalonians 2:3-11. It foretells of deception in the last days that will be according to how Satan works. Verse 3 begins by warning of the coming antichrist. Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.

This passage is a “heads up”—a warning of deception to come. The final day of judgment is coming but not until after the arrival of the lawless one, also known as the antichrist. Verses 4 through 7 go on to describe what he will do.

He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God. Don’t you remember that when I was with you, I used to tell you these things? And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.

For the first time, enérgeia —the noun form of energy, is used to refer to Satan’s spiritual power to work. Verse 7 says that the secret power of lawlessness is already at work but that the Holy Spirit is holding Satan back so that all will occur at the proper time. Now, as you read Verses 8-10, keep in mind, Verse 7 already said that the power of lawlessness is at work in these last days.

And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

The second use of enérgeia is in reference to Satan’s power (energy) to work for his purposes. What is the way Satan works? All sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie. Satan counterfeits signs and wonders.

In the area of health, he cannot bring true healing, but he can provide a convincing counterfeit to deceive. How? Through demonic torment, he can mimic the illnesses and symptoms of true physical conditions. For example, I frequently hear of people involved in energy medicine who have developed symptoms of Lyme disease that are completely debilitating, and yet, no traditional test confirms that they have the condition.  What if in these cases demonic torment, rather than a bacterial infection, imitates the symptoms of Lyme? If Satan wishes to “cure” their condition, all he need do is remove the thorn of demonic oppression in coordination with the health practices he controls. This creates a powerful illusion by which many are being led astray. I am convinced this happens constantly in the alternative realm of health.

Take notice of the reference to perishing in the last verse. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. One might assume that the use of perish here only refers to a man’s eternal state, but this is likely a wrong assumption. Often, the Biblical references to life and death are two-fold—including both the here and now, as well as the eternal. This passage’s reference to perishing does the same. Why do they perish? Because they refuse to love the truth and so be saved.

If we read on, we see the noun form of energy used one last time, but this time it speaks of God’s energy. For this reason, God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned (judged) who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

It is literally saying that God sends an energetic delusion! In God’s sovereignty, His energy is ultimately the power behind allowing Satan’s energy to work in people in the last days. Why would God do that? God intends to provide a test that will separate the wheat from the tares before the final judgment. Satan’s energetic delusion provides the means to reveal who, by love of the truth, will not be deceived by a lie.

Concluding thoughts

Energy is far more than the electromagnetic properties of living things, frequencies, or quantum physics. It is and always has been spiritual power at work in humans to accomplish something. In these last days, God has allowed Satan to use his energy to accomplish deceptive work in people that the hearts of mankind might be revealed. This is a test! Will you trade the truth of God for a lie? You may think that energy medicine is your salvation, but God will judge those who choose a lie over the truth.

Hi Marcy,

Thank you for this particular edition. It delivered clarity for the entire energy issue. I recently used Wikipedia to get a list of alternative medical practices and it came up with over 100 in alphabetical order. In a sense, I am not surprised at how accepted these are among the population and the deception that has taken root because it “works”.

I put a website together for cancer alternatives and have had to clean it up several items related to bad sources. I surely do NOT want to lead anyone down a dark demonic pathway. Thank you for all you are doing in alerting the BodY of Christ to these increasingly growing deceptions. Bill in Wisconsin
