LifeWave Through the Lens of Truth - Heart & Mind Ministries

Christian review of LifeWave patches exploring science and faith-based concerns

The following article is written by Megan Roberts, RN, MSN, FNP-C, a member of Heart & Mind Ministries’ practitioner group. After receiving numerous questions about LifeWave patches from patients, colleagues, and friends, Megan researched the topic in depth and graciously shares her findings with our readers.

More and more people are asking me about LifeWave patches: what they are, if they work, and whether there's solid science behind them. I’ve taken the time to watch interviews, review published studies, read through LifeWave’s own promotional materials, and listen to product testimonies. I even know a few LifeWave "brand partners" which is a name for those who sell these patches. This review is my honest, research-based, and biblically grounded take.

Let’s start with the concept: Light can cause biological change. That’s true. Photobiomodulation is a real area of research. We know that certain wavelengths of light, especially in the red and near-infrared range, can affect mitochondrial activity, support tissue healing, and even influence circadian rhythm. The most familiar example is how sunlight triggers vitamin D synthesis in the skin. In the same way, scientists are exploring how targeted light can help with inflammation, recovery, and energy production in cells. That’s legitimate science. I support research into low-level light therapy (LLLT) and photobiomodulation when it is grounded in clear, replicable, and biologically plausible mechanisms.

LifeWave claims to be operating in this space, but they go much further. The X39 patch, for example, is marketed as a non-transdermal patch that uses the body’s own heat and light emissions (primarily in the infrared spectrum) to reflect very specific wavelengths back into the skin. They say this stimulates a copper peptide called GHK-Cu, which in turn activates stem cells, resets thousands of genes, and begins a cascade of regeneration in the body. Some users say they feel results in 24 hours. That alone is a big claim, but it doesn’t stop there.

As I dug deeper, I found that many of LifeWave’s statements and teachings borrow heavily from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and metaphysical language. Their patches are often said to “unblock meridians,” “balance energy,” or enhance the flow of “Qi” through the body. These concepts come from Taoist philosophy rather than human physiology. Some patch placements are based on acupuncture point maps that follow meridian lines which are energy pathways rooted in the idea of “Qi”, a “life force” central to Traditional Chinese Medicine. This framework reflects a spiritual belief system that does not align with a biblical worldview.

Even more concerning are the public claims made by LifeWave’s founder, David Schmidt. In videos and interviews, he describes the inspiration for the patches as coming from his study of Bible codes, specifically Hebrew numerology (gematria). He explains how he converted the words “Tree of Life” from Genesis into numbers, then into light frequencies, and from there into wavelengths of near-infrared light. He claims this gave him insight into how to “reverse aging” by activating the body’s light-based regeneration systems. He describes this as divinely revealed information that ties together scripture, nature, and quantum biology.

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.  -2 Timothy 4:3-4

This isn’t innovation, it’s Gnosticism wrapped in science language. The idea that God encoded a secret light frequency into the Hebrew of Genesis so we could use it to restore youth is not biblical. It reflects a mystical use of scripture that draws more from occultism than from sound doctrine. Schmidt’s references to “light from the spiritual realm” and his obsession with numbers-as-secret-keys are deeply problematic. Scripture warns us about those who search for hidden codes, divine energy, or mystical shortcuts to life and health. The Bible doesn’t need to be decoded.

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.  -Colossians 2:8

As for the science: while there is some preliminary research on copper peptides and their regenerative potential (and yes, GHK-Cu is a real peptide with biological activity), the leap from this to “this patch activates your stem cells and reverses your biological age” is massive and unsupported by high-quality, independent, peer-reviewed evidence. Much of LifeWave’s “research” is conducted internally, with no external verification. Claims about “resetting 4,000 genes” or “balancing the brain in six weeks” are extraordinary and require extraordinary proof. It isn’t there. Testimonials and user anecdotes are not the same as clinical trials.

LifeWave is also a multi-level marketing company (MLM). This matters because MLMs often incentivize exaggerated health claims and emotional sales tactics. When you have untrained distributors selling a product with spiritual-sounding language, and personal testimonials as the primary “evidence,” it becomes nearly impossible to separate truth from marketing. I’ve seen people waste thousands of dollars chasing patches and promises that didn’t hold up. I’ve also seen vulnerable people, desperate for healing, pulled into spiritual confusion because a product was framed as both “scientific” and “divinely inspired.”

We are called to test the spirits, to reject syncretism, and to avoid mystical teachings dressed up in science terms. The idea that wearing a crystal-structured patch will reflect “coded light” into your skin, unlock divine regeneration frequencies, and reverse aging by activating your “inner energy field” is not medicine. It’s not functional health. It’s not even just “alternative.” It is, at its root, a spiritual counterfeit.

So, what do I say to the client or believer considering LifeWave?

I say: be wise. God heals, but not through hidden codes or secret frequencies. Don’t confuse spiritual-sounding language with biblical truth. Don’t let your hunger for healing lead you into beliefs that subtly twist scripture, elevate man’s “discovery,” or pull you into ideas that have more in common with the serpent’s whisper than the Shepherd’s voice.

You were fearfully and wonderfully made. The healing God offers isn’t hidden in a frequency, it’s found in the Light of the World.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” -John 8:12
