Part 1: Understanding Its Spiritual and Occult Roots
At the time of this writing, it’s been close to 15 years since my repentance from the alternative health practice of muscle testing, which I once considered my lifeline and even my mission. How could I, a devout Christian who desired with all my heart to serve the Lord by helping others, become a slave to divination?
It was simple, really. I had unknowingly traded the truth of God for a lie. My pride provided fertile ground for entrapment by the snare of the devil. But God, in His mercy, opened my eyes.
Now, much humbled, I entreat others to hold every practice up to the lens of Scripture. What about you? Has something brought you to a place of questioning what you once embraced with great certainty? If so, you’re not alone. Questions are good when they lead us to seek the truth found in God’s Word.
In this blog series, I’ll explore 11 compelling reasons why homeopathy is not merely an alternative medicine but actually witchcraft, why it aligns with occult and spiritual practices, and why Christians should carefully consider the implications of using it. This first post focuses on the origins of homeopathy and its mystical underpinnings.
We’ll examine the mysterious origins of homeopathy, the life of its founder Samuel Hahnemann, and the spiritual and occult influences that shaped his “healing” system. From mystical philosophies to energy-based medicine, we’ll uncover why what seems scientific may have very different foundations than you’ve been led to believe.
Many Christians who use homeopathy have been led to believe that it is simply a natural healing remedy made from God-given substances in His creation. They often use it with their children as a tool to avoid doctors’ offices or pharmaceuticals, which they may see as risky or harmful. These parents believe homeopathy is effective for minor ailments, and it may feel empowering to be able to treat directly for symptoms that arise.
For years in my ministry, I frequently received questions about homeopathy. I too in years past used a couple of remedies on occasion, but after repenting from muscle testing, I began to have concerns as I saw similarities to my former involvement with energy-based practices, specifically in the way that people had dramatic and very sudden results when using a remedy that supposedly contained only a miniscule amount of the active ingredient. How could this be? Perhaps you’ve noticed the same phenomenon, which is exactly why you might have concluded homeopathy does indeed work? However, have you also noticed sudden and severe results? Anyway, it was things like that which gave me pause and told me that I needed to look into it further.
When I began researching the topic for a chapter on homeopathy in my book, Ouija Medicine—The Dark Side of Energy Medicine, I was shocked at what I discovered. This blog post comes from the approximately 40 hours of research that I did for the chapter in Ouija Medicine. In fact, much of this post comes directly from that chapter, so if you want to see all of the sources, just check it out. I’m going to cover a lot of information, but I approach everything as someone who digs deep, carefully examining primary sources and quoting credible authorities. In today’s world, anyone can make bold claims and present them as fact—but that’s not my style. My goal is thorough, evidence-based analysis to uncover the truth.
The truth is that few who use homeopathy realize it’s spiritual and occult foundations and that its methods, principles, and origins are deeply rooted in mystical philosophies, non-Christian spiritual practices, and beliefs about unseen energies—far removed from simple natural remedies.
Since I hope to reveal why I have concluded that homeopathy is witchcraft, let me begin by defining my terms: According to Strongs Concordance of the Bible, the word witchcraft comes from the Greek word pharmakeía and indicates the use of medicine, drugs, or spells used in magic, sorcery, or enchantment.[1] When applied to health, sorcery, which is synonymous with witchcraft, involves things used medicinally that were created through magical arts involving demonic power. In this blog, I will show how homeopathy fits squarely within this definition.
So, today I want to share with you 11 reasons why homeopathy is not just unscientific, but spiritually dangerous. Along the way, we’ll look at the history of homeopathy, the abundant research available, and Scripture, and I’ll name my sources so you can see this isn’t just hearsay.
Reason #1: Homeopathy Was Founded on False Inspiration
Let’s begin with the very roots of homeopathy. If the foundation is rotten, the whole structure is unsafe.
Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician in the late 1700s, became frustrated with the brutal medical practices of his day—bloodletting, leeches, and purging. In his search for something better, he developed what he called the “Law of Similars”—the idea that “like cures like.” He believed that substances which cause symptoms in large doses could cure those same symptoms in tiny amounts. From this, the name homeopathy was born: homoios meaning “similar,” and pathos meaning “suffering.”
But here is where we must pause. Hahnemann didn’t just view himself as a curious scientist. He claimed spiritual inspiration for his ideas. In a letter written in 1828, he said he was “guided by the invisible powers of the Almighty, listening, observing, tuning in to His instructions, paying most earnest heed and religious attention to this inspiration.”
In the French edition of his book The Organon, he went even further, stating that it was written under the dictation of the Supreme Being.
But make no mistake: Hahnemann was not speaking of the God of the Bible. As we will see, his writings and practices show that he drew from a different spirit altogether.
The apostle Paul warns us in 2 Corinthians 11:14–15 that “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness.”
When a man claims that his medical theories were dictated to him by “invisible powers,” we must ask: which powers? For Christians, this raises a red flag. As I will continue to reveal, the roots of homeopathy are not grounded in science, nor in submission to Christ, but in spiritual inspiration from a counterfeit source.
Psalm 127:1 reminds us: “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” Homeopathy was not built by the Lord. Its very foundation rests on deception, and a house built on sand will not stand.
That’s the first reason why homeopathy is not just unscientific—it is spiritually dangerous.
Reason #2: Homeopathy Is Built on Unreliable “Provings”
The second reason we must be wary of homeopathy is because its remedies are founded on what Hahnemann called provings.
Hahnemann and his followers would ingest various natural substances—plants, minerals, even poisons—and then carefully record every physical or emotional symptom they experienced in the minutes, days, and even weeks that followed. These notes were later compiled into massive reference works called Materia Medica. Homeopaths still use these today to match a patient’s symptoms with a supposed remedy.
But what kind of “science” was this? Let me give you just one example. In Hahnemann’s Materia Medica Pura, the herb chamomile is listed as producing 13 full pages of symptoms. Among them: vertigo, dull aching pain in the head, violent desire for coffee, grumbling in the teeth, aversion to the wind, burning in the hand, quarrelsome dreams, redness of the cheek.
And the list goes on and on for 13 pages of random symptoms—all supposedly caused by chamomile. And because of this, homeopaths claim chamomile can be used to treat any one of those ailments.
But think about it. How could Hahnemann possibly have controlled all outside influences on a person over several weeks’ time? Were these tests blinded? Controlled? Repeatable? Did they even follow the basic principles of scientific inquiry? The answer is no.
A 2007 systematic review of homeopathic provings published in 6 languages concluded that “the HPTs were generally of low methodological quality… Improvement of the method and reporting of results of HPTs are required.” In plain language—these so-called provings don’t meet scientific standards.
And what’s more, they have not been reproducible. Oliver Wendell Holmes, M.D., a respected professor of anatomy at Harvard for 35 years, described how prominent physicians in Paris tried for an entire year to replicate Hahnemann’s experiments. They failed. They could not reproduce the results. Even the famous Cinchona bark that started Hahnemann down this road was shown by others to cause no such symptoms.
Here’s what the Bible says in Proverbs 14:15: “The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.” We cannot simply accept someone’s unverified experience as truth. God calls us to discernment.
The provings on which homeopathy is built are not grounded in fact, but in imagination. And when the foundation is false, the structure built upon it is unstable and unsafe.
That’s the second reason why homeopathy is not just unscientific—it is spiritually dangerous.
Reason #3: Homeopathy Depends on Magical Dilutions and Shaking
The third reason we must reject homeopathy is because its remedies are created through a process that is not scientific, but mystical.
Let me explain. Homeopathic remedies are made through repeated dilution and vigorous shaking—that is what Hahnemann called potentization or dynamization. For example, the remedy Coffea cruda is prepared from coffee beans. One drop of coffee extract is placed in nine drops of water. Then a drop from that mixture is placed into another vial of nine drops. That process is repeated over and over—sometimes sixty times or more—with the mixture shaken violently each time.
Homeopaths insist the medicine will not work if it is merely diluted without shaking, or shaken without diluting. It must be both. But here’s the question: why? What force is supposedly released through this ritual? Science has no explanation.
In fact, modern homeopaths have quietly stopped emphasizing potentization when speaking to the public—because it is indefensible. Instead, they highlight only the so-called Law of Similars. But behind closed doors, in their schools and courses, the teaching about “dynamization” is preserved because it is believed to be fundamental to the creation of each remedy.
Here’s the scientific reality: once a homeopathic remedy reaches a dilution of 12C—or 24X (these are the labels on any remedy that indicate how many times it was diluted)—it no longer contains even a single molecule of the original substance. Yet remedies commonly sold today are 30C or higher. That means they contain nothing but water or sugar.
Physicist Robert Park calculated that for a 30C dilution to contain just one molecule of the original substance, you would need a container more than 30 billion times the size of the Earth. Another physician, Dr. Browning, explained that if you dissolved a grain of medicine in the ocean, the water would still be stronger than most homeopathic potencies. And yet, homeopaths claim these “empty” solutions are powerful medicines, as do many individuals who testify of dramatic results from them.
Consider one of the most popular products: Oscillococcinum. It is sold for colds and flu, and prepared from the liver and heart of a single duck. That’s right—just one duck per year supplies the whole market. The so-called “active ingredient” is diluted to 200C, which means its concentration is one part in 100 to the 200th power—a number so large it dwarfs the estimated number of molecules in the universe. U.S. News & World Report once dubbed it “the $20-million duck.”
The Bible warns us in Colossians 2:8: “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”
Homeopathy’s dilution and shaking rituals are not based on chemistry, but on an appeal to unseen “energies” and elemental forces. What science cannot explain, Scripture identifies: it is empty deceit rooted in spiritual darkness, not in Christ.
That’s the third reason homeopathy is not only unscientific—it is spiritually dangerous.
Reason #4: Homeopathy Relies on Mystical and Subjective Consultations
Another striking feature of homeopathy is the consultation itself. Unlike the brief visits we often experience in modern medicine, a homeopathic appointment can last for hours. At first, this may sound appealing. After all, who doesn’t want to be listened to and cared for? But we must look deeper.
Samuel Hahnemann taught that treating the whole person meant uncovering every detail of their physical, mental, and even emotional life. To do this, the homeopath is trained to ask endless questions—about symptoms, habits, preferences, and even seemingly irrelevant quirks. Patients may be asked: Do you prefer to sleep on your back or your side? Do you like walking barefoot? How do you feel before a storm? Do you button your collar tightly, or leave it open?
One modern homeopath, Dr. Jacques Michaud, even emphasizes the role of dreams, claiming they are “sometimes precise enough to indicate a remedy.”
Think about this. The diagnosis is not based on medical tests, measurable data, or reproducible science. Instead, it is based on the patient’s feelings, odd habits, or the interpretation of their dreams. Out of thousands of possible remedies, the homeopath must then match one single substance to that unique set of subjective details.
No wonder people find this approach validating—it feels personal, attentive, and even intimate. But we must ask: what is the source of this knowledge? Is this the wisdom of God, or the wisdom of men? James 3:15 warns us that there is a kind of wisdom that is “earthly, unspiritual, demonic.”
When a practice elevates dreams, quirks, and obscure symptoms as a roadmap to healing, it draws dangerously close to divination. It entices people with the appearance of care but leads them into dependence on a system not grounded in truth.
Proverbs 27:6 says, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.” The attention in a homeopathic consultation may feel like kindness, but if it directs us away from the true Healer, Jesus Christ, it is a counterfeit compassion.
That is the fourth reason why homeopathy is not just unscientific—it is spiritually dangerous.
While understanding the spiritual and occult origins of homeopathy gives us important context, the true test comes when we examine the foundational principles—the so-called “laws” Hahnemann developed. In the next post, we will dive into these laws, explore their logical and scientific flaws, and reveal why even the most well-meaning practitioners struggle to make them work in practice.
